Students should be assured that, even though Professional Schools have not come to agreement on accepting Pass/Fail grading, it has been clear to the advisors in the PreMedical and PreDental Advising Office that the Professional Schools are keenly aware of the widespread and potential long-term impact of COVID-19 on students in all phases of preparation for a Health Professions career. Below are links to information that may help students (and advisors) navigate this uncertain time.
ALL CAREER AREAS – START HERE: Health Professions COVID-19 Related Links and Information
This is a publicly-accessible web page that provides direct links to COVID-19-related information released by:
- Professional school associations (AAMC, AACOM, ADEA, ASCO, AACPM, and AAVMC)
- Centralized application services (AMCAS, AACOMAS, AADSAS, OptomCAS, AACPMAS, and VMCAS)

This web page includes sections for Health and Allied Health Professions, and is maintained by the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (NAAHP).
Pass/Fail Grading information: Until a better mechanism for dissemination is created by a health career area – e.g, individual Allopathic (MD) Medicals Schools now have the ability to include and maintain COVID-19 policies in their entry in the MSAR – you may find some preliminary information about the applicability of Pass/Fail graded courses toward prerequisites at individual professional school programs within documents linked from this page. Much of this information was compiled in March and April of 2020, crowdsourced by the health professions advising community. As time passes, the information contained in these documents may become less accurate, so please verify the information you find in these documents against the Admissions information published directly by your school(s) of interest.
In addition to the information and resources collected by NAAHP, the PreMedical and PreDental Adivisng Office staff have found the following added resources that students in individual career areas may find relevant to their professional school preparation:
Medical (Allopathic and Osteopathic pathways)
Medical Student Wellbeing: Personal stories of resilience, resources for maintaining well-being, and programs, practices, and strategies found to be effective in building student well-being, from student service providers, faculty, staff, and current medical students.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) and AMCAS: FAQs for Allopathic (MD) Medical School Applicants participating in the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 AMCAS application cycles. The corresponding UMBC HPEC Cohorts are the Fall 2020 and Fall 2021 Cohorts.

Dental school applicants can expect to have an opportunity to describe COVID-19-related impact on the AADSAS application in the 2020-2021 Application Cycle (follow the hyperlink, then scroll to the bottom of that page). Future applicants should prepare for the possibility that this opportunity will be included for the next several application cycles.
