Upon graduation from dental school, you can either begin practicing as a general dentist, or you can go on to pursue additional education and training in a dental specialty.
There are currently twelve specialties recognized by the American Dental Association. They are:
- Dental Anesthesiology
- Dental Public Health
- Endodontics
- Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology
- Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology
- Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
- Oral Medicine
- Orofacial Pain
- Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics
- Periodontics
- Pediatric Dentistry
- Prosthodontics
