Connecting with the PreMedical & PreDental Advising Office

myUMBC groups

Any current UMBC student interested in becoming either a physician, dentist, optometrist, or veterinarian may join the “myUMBC PreMedical and PreDental Interest Group” by logging into their myUMBC account and searching the Group Directory for this group. This career interest group is led by the UMBC PreMedical and PreDental Advising Office for students who are interested in the aforementioned healthcare careers.  Events sponsored by the UMBC PreMedical and PreDental Advising Office will be posted onto this interest group.

Separate from the myUMBC Group coordinated by the PreMedical & PreDental Advising Office, are the career-focused, student-run societies such as the PreMedical Society, PreDental Society, PreOptometry Society, and PreVeterinary Society. Students are also encouraged to connect with their peers through these student-run groups by connecting with the officers of each society.  The contact information for the officers of student organizations is listed on the Office of Student Life page.

Email

Before accessing services, students are expected to have a working knowledge of the information on the office website. Please be sure you read the office website which provides comprehensive pre-professional information. Your question might already be answered on the website! For questions which are not answered on the website, current UMBC students and UMBC alumni can email their questions to us at healthproadvising@umbc.edu

Current UMBC students should include their Campus ID, declared major, career interest area (pre-medical, pre-dental, etc.), and expected graduation date along with their advising questions. UMBC Alumni should include the month and year of their UMBC graduation and degree, and career interest area (pre-medical, pre-dental, etc.) along with their advising questions.

Students with questions about courses in their declared major and/or UMBC graduation requirements should contact their Departmental Advisor. Students who have recently declared or added a major can find contact information for Departmental Advising here.

Appointments

Current UMBC students and UMBC alumni can schedule a pre-health advising appointment via our online appointment calendar. Because appointment times are opened on a rolling basis, if all of the appointments are currently booked, keep checking the system. Walk-in hours are not available at this time.

During Advance Registration, one-on-one appointments will be limited to students who are in the final phases of preparation for their application to professional school. Group Advising sessions will be provided for students who still have first- and/or second-year BIOL and CHEM coursework in progress or planned for future enrollment. You can read more about those Group Advising sessions – and how to choose the one that’s best for you – under Events.

In addition, the pre-requisite sheets are always available, here.
